Original Flow Domain:
The original flow domain for an axis-symmetric geometry is shown
below. This flow domain was determined to be insufficient for the
guarantee of flow capture which resulted from a supersonic flow
solution. The original flow domain is identified by the blue line, and
the new domain has been expanded with a conic developed with the
REDIST operator.
- As it stands, the grid is not usable. Several operations are needed to
improve the grid quality, including the following:
- Trans-Finite interpolation to initialize a subdomain;
- Hermite Vector Interpolation (HVI) with the SMOOTH command to
smooth the interface into the new subdomain;
- Redistribution of the grid to eliminate stretching issues;
- and Parametric Re-Mapping (PRM) with the BLEND command to
further smooth the interface region;
Although all operations were used, not all of them are required. The
VGM software does not require a specific method to smooth a
grid. Rather, the user may make up their own methods because the
commands can work in concert with one another.
